Hey guys, I was shown this video by a friend, and I thought it was pretty interesting. I do not have strong (or any) opinions on the legalization of drugs, nor on the war on drugs, but I think the things this guy said about the economics of drugs were interesting. I promise, I am not trying to push an agenda here, but I was just wondering what people think. Please feel free to share any opinions, especially those which relate to the economy or financial world.

"We see the failure of probation in our society" (Peter Christ). He also mentioned the war on drugs is against the criminals that are selling them, but not directly against the drugs themselves.
ReplyDeletePeter Chist is someone in law enforcement who is not oblivious to use of drug in our society. Bottom line is that though drugs are illegal people can still get them. For example, there is a running joke in my middle school that some drugs deemed illegal are easier to get than chewing gum. Seriously! Middle School!
Since drugs are accessible, it makes sense that we should be able to benefit economically from the business. When things are sold on the black market they are untracked, not counted into our GDP, and usually not as safe as if they were regulated. If the system did have government oversight drugs would be much safer.
I think we should legalize weed and the gov could make bank on it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, again while I was in Costa Rica many people felt the United States claimed a war on drugs so they could simply occupy areas of foreign countries with their soldiers.
I knew it from our perspective which was foreign countries were constantly bringing drugs into our country and making profits off of it.
I'm not really sure what is right, but I could see both sides of the argument.
I also agree that marijuana should be legalized and we should tax the crap out of it. I honestly think that the crime rate would go down and the cops could focus more energy on important things. Marijuana is much less dangerous than alcohol. H
