Crazy. So much inefficiency and misplaced priorities. We are ranked 37th in the world for our healthcare system even though we spend more money per capita than any other country. #1 in spending, #37 in results.
I like the visuals of the tax revenue distributions. However, I believe it is more important to look at the distributions of the government expenditure because tax revenue distributions is not the same thing as government expenditure distributions.
Looking at the first diagram, cutting the military budget makes a lot of sense to me. Also, I would really appreciate it if investment in education and science could become more than just an afterthought. Our schools are falling apart and for some reason we feel the need to teach other countries a lesson :(
Military spending isn't the problem. Entitlement and welfare spending is the problem. It accounts for over 50% of the federal budget and is expected to rise whereas military only accounts for 18% and will fall. So, first priority should be cutting back on entitlement spending.

ReplyDeletethis is a super cool visual. although frustrating, this helps put things in a different way and visually breaks down the federal budget.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate... 2 cents on Education... and the tuition fee is skyrocketing.

ReplyDeleteHere is the same kind of visual, but focuses on the federal budget: http://www.heritage.org/federalbudget/where-did-your-tax-dollar-go
