  1. I definitely could've done better. The only trend line I got right was the deaths from overdose. This "game" shows my lack of knowledge in many areas, but it makes me realize how we can tackle problems by looking at numbers and thinking about what changes caused the fall and rise of numbers. But most issues are politicized and the people who have to power to influence outcomes only care about profits (ex. pharmaceutical companies).

  2. I guessed a steady level of car crash deaths versus the decrease, I had gun deaths rising steadily missing the drop after the late 90s. I did guess correctly on the early peak and eventual drop of HIV except my peak was a little late. And I actually got the drug overdose increase curve almost spot on. The one that definitely caught me most off guard was the traffic deaths. I thought due to the increase in cars on the road, that deaths would also increase, but I suppose stronger safety measures can result in the decrease.

  3. I only correctly guessed on the drug overdose increasing and HIV death rate dropping. I was shocked by my ignorances on certain fields.

  4. I was definitely the most surprised by the traffic deaths graph. I would have expected them to go down due to increasing safety standards. The others were about what I expected, especially the overdose figure.

  5. I got a few of these wrong. I definitely overestimated deaths due to causes that are at the forefront of the news and policy debates, and underestimated some that are not as widely discussed.

  6. I found it interesting that overdosing on medications has increased significantly over the past 10+ years. I was also surprised with the fact that the amount of deaths due to guns has decreased. This article shows how much one knows about how our society functions and what we truly know about our society.

  7. I overestimated the death rates for all but one - drug overdose. It is interesting to see how drug overdoses and gun violence have been on the rise, while problems that can addressed by technology have decreased. It is as if technological advancement cannot fix what ails the human spirit.

  8. I was similar to Chido as I severely understated the death rates for drug overdoses. Looking back and thinking critically, however, it makes sense of how the drug overdoses have increased by more than 500%. As the article states, we must increase the public knowledge and overall health (obviously very complicated) in order to help this difficult situation.

  9. This game also shows my lack of knowledge in some areas as I tended to underestimate certain death rates such as drug overdoses.
