Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dc58ZrOuck . The video shows patterns of light throughout the world. Economic theory usually assumes that land is ubiquitous (ever present and identical). Clearly it isn't. I took the two figures shown below from the FAO (link is here). Thoughts?
The NASA light map is an interesting way to see how we have populated the world. It is clear that some areas are highly populated, and are likely facing the symptoms of pressure on land and resources as listed above. It would be interesting to see the extent to which the distribution of the world population currently is leading to environmental problems.
