Happy Tax Day!

In honor of tax day, find out how much you know about taxes and our perception of taxes in the U.S. Head to this article (here), and answer the main question, and there you can also check out some interesting figures like the one below. What surprised you? What didn't?

  1. What surprised me was the fact that 64% of Americans believe that people with higher incomes pay more in taxes than people with lower incomes. What I didn't find surprising was the fact that democrats want to tax the rich/higher income bracket more and republicans want to give tax breaks to the rich/higher income bracket.

  2. I always chuckle with the notion of progressive taxation and tax brackets comes up. It's complicated, and I've run into so many people who believe that if you end up in a higher tax bracket, ALL of your income is taxed at that rate. Because of that, I wasn't that surprised to know that most people have some misconceptions about taxes and the tax system. Of course, the "context matters" section talking about the difference in phrasing between Death and Estate tax should be mandatory reading in Econ 101... in my opinion.

  3. The disparity between the percentage of Democrats who strongly agreed and Republicans who strongly agreed was pretty substantial. However, it was not surprising because of Branden's point about the different tax agendas these two parties have.

  4. It is so obvious that differences between Republicans and Democrats only from their views on tax, which I found out it is not surprising at all.
