CONVERSABLE ECONOMIST: Falling Job Tenure

  1. I think the decrease in job tenure is a very recent and important issue. I feel like one of the main reasons that job tenure has decreased is because employers do not want to pay employees for increased benefits and salaries based on experience and time at the job. I think many workers will be negatively affected by this because they will need more access to retirement accounts, also employers are being hurt because by reducing training for employees they are showing they are not invested in them. Also by not having fully trained employees the companies productivity will decrease compared to having more experienced and trained employees.
