Democrats used to be more like Republicans

a bit of history:

  1. I have always found it interesting why certain groups of people vote one way or another. We will see if the Donald Trump vs Hillary Clinton race will change the map for some people.

  2. I think the evolution of parties is extremely interesting. The republican party was founded as essentially the anti-slavery alternative to the democrats, and was based almost entirely in the north. This is the era of "the party of Lincoln". Ever since then there has been a gradual change to where we are now, where the republican support comes strongest from the south and the democrats are more supported in the north.

  3. Very interesting article. Trump has claimed recently that he's polling really well among minority voters, but there's been some discussion on the validity of these claims. I'm sure James Davis is a rarity.

  4. Definitely interesting. Despite the pastor's explanations as to why he backs Trump, it still didn't make sense to me as to why he would. I really don't think any policy Trump makes will help rebuild inner cities.

  5. I feel like in Trump's case his policies are both democratic and republican. He is totally all over the place and I think he has policies that attract certain groups of people. I can see how the parties have changed over time and I think with this election they will be changed again too.

  6. This is definitely a very interesting article. I think that is interesting that various minority groups support Trump after some of the inane comments he has made toward them. While I agree with Lucas and I do not quite understand how Trump's plan will help rebuild inner cities, I do think that it will be interesting how different demographic groups approach this election. Especially if Hillary is the democratic nominee, I think that many minorities will be split on who to vote for.

  7. I was quite shocked to see people of color supporting Donald Trump because I've never seen any people of color who support Donald Trump around me.

This reminded me of American politics class last fall quarter. At that point, both Trump and Bernie were on the center of media for being sort of extremists from different political spectrum. My professor expected that they won't be able to win primaries but guess what. Both of their policies are coming towards in the middle of the political spectrum and aiming for the median voters. Trump will become the Republican candidate.

  8. I agree with Lucas that I still don't understand why James Davis is supporting Trump. After all those racist comments that Trump has made, it's hard to see Trump as somebody whose words are credible. Honestly, any presidential candidate could say whatever policies the middle class or majority of population would want and never enforce any of those policies once he/she becomes a president.
I completely agree with Mario that James Davis is just a rarirty.
