  1. Really cool and interesting picture. Amazes me to think that so much of our income tax goes to fund the military. Would this percentage change if we were not at war? Knowing were are debt is right now do you think the Interest on Federal Debt will ever surpass the health care sector in terms of income tax distribution. And if you were in control of determining income tax distribution how would you alter this picture, if at all?

  2. This is great visual of where income taxes were spent by the government. Personally I think military spending is way too high, but the sequester should take care of that. I am very surprised that we are spending 13.6 on federal debt interest! No wonder Congress is so concerned about bringing down the deficit.

As mentioned during first week’s class discussion, I believe innovation is the key to future economic growth. For this reason I would like to see government spending on science increase to more than one percent! Education should also be another focus in aims to spark innovation. Why does the government spend 26.5% on military and only 3.55 on education!? This is what frustrates me about the federal government.

  3. This photo does a great job of helping one understand where the government spends income taxes. It's important for people to know where their money is going and this is an easy way for everyone to get a general understanding. I think high military spending is vital to our country but I do agree that some more spending needs to be allocated to education. It's a very fragile job figuring out the allocation though

  4. I had the same thought as Bianca in regards to the amount spent on education. We spend more on Veterans Benefits than education? Science was another segment that surprised me; I would have thought that a country so focused on progressiveness would invest far more into developing new methods and technologies. This picture has put quite a few things in perspective for me.

  5. Shane, I am right there with you, military spending should be one of the top areas the money is spent, if not the number one area. But education should really higher, there are plenty of schools around the US that could really use that money for good. The youth is our future, the more we invest in them the great our return will be.
