It's not my week to blog, but I came across this very short and blunt article:
http://gawker.com/rick-perry-is-a-domestic-financial-terrorist-1569225313
Rick Perry appears to have spearheaded a deal to pull 4,000 new jobs into Texas...and out of California and Kentucky. The author of this article thinks that is worse than stupid, but cannibalistic to his fellow countrymen.
What do you all think? Is the author right, or is it okay to have states battling each other for economic progress?

I agree with one of the comment in the post. He is a Texas patriot, not an american one. The federal government has to step in and do something about it. It is like taking a couple of penny's from each american on average and giving to the company and only people who benefit from it are the 3000 Texans. Something is wrong!
ReplyDeleteI believe that instead of other state governors complaining about Rick Perry making Texas a "business paradise" and "stealing" jobs from their states, they should work to make their states more business friendly to compete against Texas. Texas isn't the only state that engages in business subsidizing practices. Many other states, especially California, conduct those kinds of practices.
ReplyDeleteI think it comes down to how states market their environment to attract entrepreneurs to invest there. Rick Perry is making decisions as a businessman seeking to maximize his benefits. As a result, he should be able to move his activities to any state he desires.
ReplyDeleteThis excerpt below summs up what's going on very well:
ReplyDelete"Is Rick Perry a patriot? I would argue that, to the contrary, Rick Perry is engaged in domestic financial terrorism. These sorts of corporate welfare programs—that use public money in the form of tax breaks and financial incentives to lure businesses from one state to another—sound good, if you pretend that only your state matters, and furthermore, that your state is at war with all of the other states in America, and that you can only win by cannibalizing the resources of another state."
There are so many problems with what Rick Perry is doing that I can't even begin to talk about them.
