How Lansing's ignorance cost Michigan a cool $280M - Detroit Free Press

Here are the opening sentences from the article:

"Would you sign a contract without knowing what it might cost you?"

"That’s exactly what Michigan legislators did this past January — every reckless Republican and Democrat in the House and Senate — when they unanimously approved a bill making it harder for the state Treasury Department to collect overdue taxes from corporate officers."

What do you think should be done now? General thoughts on the article?

  1. As I read this article, I was like what! Why would you sign a bill that had no clear sense of what the damage might be?

I was confused by this and I do not understand it. The power of risk taking at work.

  2. I don't understand why legislators can't reverse the law? My guess is that state lobbyists had a hand in this.
