AT&T acquires DirecTV for $48.5 billion

On Sunday, AT&T agreed to acquire DirecTV for $48.5 Billion:

Although AT&T is saying this deal will allow them to supply superior services to customers, some consumers and regulators are concerned because the AT&T-DirecTV merger would effectively cut the number of video providers from four to three for about 25 percent of U.S. households. Such a situation could result in higher prices for consumers.

Should the government challenge this merger?

  1. Wow some corporations are really getting powerful. Apple just bought Dre Beats and I know many companies are buying out others.

  2. i do not think the merger should be challenged. i read them both, and it does not seem that would be a problem given that the trend for dish and cable are on the decline. so the concern regarding rising prices for consumers is not a troubling one.
